TEAM MAINLINE BAIT FAVOURITES – JONNY OLD Posted by Mainline Baits

Our Team Mainline anglers reveal their favourite, go to baits...

FAVOURITE BAITS – HOOKBAIT

When it comes to hookbaits, I prefer to match what I'm feeding. I like to use either a Cell Wafter or Pop-Up and these have become my favourite over the last few years. The simple yet deadly hookbaits have caught me many carp and simply glugging them with different Mainline liquids have proven very effective when fishing over straight boilie. Using simple Cell Wafters or Pop-Ups enables me to be more versatile and can cover all types of fishing. Using ‘match the hatch' hookbaits also gives me peace of mind knowing there will be less chance of the carp rejecting the hookbait as it's the same as what I'm feeding and it isn't an obvious looking hookbait.

FAVOURITE BAITS – BOILIE

My favourite choice of boilie will have to be the Cell (what a shocker!) I have found that carp can simply not resist eating this bait. Since changing to the Cell I've found that my catch rate has gone up in the limited time I go fishing which has given me great confidence in this bait. I've tested this bait on wild wary carp in the river Avon, sometimes other baits are left untouched however the Cell has been proven very successful watching carp clear-out entire spots within minutes.

My favourite time to fish is in the winter and making sure I have an attractive and soluble bait is crucial at this time of year. Since using the cell in the cooler months I have caught new PB'S and many stunning winter carp. Simply using Cell out the bag and in large quantities in the winter has given me great success and I wouldn't look for any other winter bait or any other boilie in general.

Some of my best sessions have come in the winter months on my syndicate Milton Abbas using straight Cell Boilies out the bag. This has included a new PB and target fish such as a big mirror called ‘No Name' and a lovely scaly carp called ‘bowlers pet'. I've also used the Cell on much lower stocked venues where carp are extremely pressured such as Rockford and using crumbed Cell with Cream Smart Liquid has proven successful again.

FAVOURITE BAITS – LIQUID

I don't use liquids too much in my angling however since using the Smart Liquid I find that this liquid enhances your bait massively and pumps out max attraction in all the water columns. Using these liquids in addition with boilie crumb, PVA bags and even straight boilies has definitely contributes in getting more bites over the last few years. I can think of occasions when I've been stalking and the swim has looked devoid of fish and after putting a few handfuls of crumb Cell heavily covered in the Cream Smart Liquid the swim has come to life with the creamy cloud filling up the baited spot, fish are attracted to the scent and soon after a bite has followed. I definitely look no further in choosing any other liquids as this is extremely versatile and attractive to carp.
