Double Thirties Brace For Jim Wilson!

Mainline carper Jim Wilson has been in touch recently as his season has begun to gain momentum. Over to Jim for the details...

"What a start to the year, things have really kicked off over my last four trips or so to my Cambridgeshire syndicate. Due to things such as real life, I couldn’t fish for most of January through till mid March, yet whilst I was away the pit continued to throw up numbers of decent fish to those persevering with the place.

My first few trips back were steady, but I managed to catch a few, mainly on Zigs, with my foam hookbaits permanently soaking in a combination of Multi-stim with added Blackcurrant and Tangerine flavours.

My first real result came in early April when I was fortunate enough to land a stunning 38lb common on a Zig Rig, which really raised my confidence for the coming year.

My following trip the next week, the weather had changed slightly and I was sure there were chances to be had on the bottom, but didn’t put all my eggs in one basket so to speak, and kept swapping the rods between Zigs and traditional bottom bait tactics. My boilie attack this year again a combination of Hybrid and Cell, along with various Mainline sweeties as hookbaits, as well as some homemade specials just to be different.

That trip resulted in a five fish catch, with the bites coming fairly evenly between the Zigs and the bottom rods.

The last two weeks have really seen a change in the fish habits in my syndicate with the bottom rods really coming into their own - I have baited quite heavily for the time of year - using five or six kilos of boilies and the same in Response Pellets for each 48hr session.

The results have pretty spectacular, with the first trip producing a seven fish result, including a brace of thirty-pound commons and the second trip producing a six fish hit, again including a brace of thirty-pound commons.

Most of the fish have fallen for either Mini Milky Toffee pop-ups or Mini Banoffee pop-ups on Hinge Stiff Rigs fished over beds of mixed Hybrid and Cell, including whole and chopped baits, with added Response Pellets.

Hopefully my luck will continue..."
