French Success For Nic Brown
Impact Angling Media's, Nic Brown has just returned from a dream trip to Golden Oak in France where he not only smashed his PB but also captured this year’s record weekly catch. Nic put his faith in a combination of our Cell & Activ-8 boilies, with matching Response Pellet and Bloodworm Extract Stik Pellets. After a first night that resulted in four fish to over 35lb Nic had the confidence he needed to stick with his initial game plan and keep the boilie going in little and often spread all along the far margin snags. He also put a kilo of pellet directly over the hookbaits in order to try and concentrate the attention of the fish on that area. The plan seemed to work as Nic went on to land a total of 21 fish ranging from a stalked 19lb carp to the king of the lake at nearly 60lbs! Over to Nic to take-up the story: "My fishing buddy and I had a clear goal when we arrived at Golden Oak - to catch ten carp each, hopefully with a few forties amongst them. After the first night and four bites it was clear that tipping-off the bottom bait with a small yellow Pineapple Juice pop-up or plastic maize from Enterprise was a great way to get bites consistently. So after a few more successful days and my with my goal of ten fish achieved, I decided a change was needed in order to try and get amongst the bigger fish. So I started playing around with different colours to tip-off my boilie hookbait. I was happily getting bites on the Milky Toffee and Plum, but I noticed on this occasion that the Fruit-ella pink was certainly the colour that seemed to produce the better fish. So as I had caught my ten I decided to concentrate my attentions on hunting for the lakes real big-un, 'The Boss' and changed all the hookbaits to pink toppers. I changed my spots slightly too, finding some lovely deep holes under the trees and also upped the amount of boilie I introduced. I also left the swim to rest for longer periods each day whilst I went out or spent a few hours stalking in the shallows allowing the fish a free feed. Things quickly started to fall into place as the average weights started to go up. I had two days to catch her and after hearing some absolute hippo's boshing in my swim at night I did think I had a chance. Just before 6am on the Friday morning I had a typical big-fish bite from a deep hole in the bushes on the far margin, a couple of beeps on the Neville and the bobbin just held-up tight and I was on it quick. Instantly the lead came off as the Choppa Droppa did its job and straight away I could see and feel that I was attached to a proper one. After a mammoth fight I slipped the net under a big mirror - I wasn’t sure quite how big but I know the legs were knocking! I secured the net and went up to get Dan. I left him with the net and went to get my Mrs from the gite some 100m away. After making sure everything was ready and safe we hoisted my prize onto the mat, I kept quiet but Dan knew it was big. Up on the scales everyone gasped as the needle flew round just shy of the 60lb mark: 59lb 8oz to be precise. I could believe it now, I had achieved my goal, 'The Boss' was on my mat! After the pictures and safe return of 'The Boss' I spent the morning just chilling out with Sharon taking it all in and visiting a local market. It was lovely to relax and enjoy it all. Dan and I even managed another thirty-pounder each on that last night! So that was it, the week was done, and what a great week it was. Dan finished with two PB’s up to 45lbs and between us we managed the biggest catch of the year, I also managed to have the biggest individual haul this year with 21 fish as well as my goal of catching 'The Boss'. Now where to next year?"Other News Articles
