RAF Record Breakers! 31st March, 2012

RAF PR & Media Manager, Lee Sustins has recently been in touch with news of the Royal Air Force Carp Team’s latest outing, one that was a huge success all-round! Over to Lee to take up the story:  "Records were sent tumbling at Barston Lake, Solihull, during the recent RAF Carp Team Pairs event, where the lake record (set by Andy Maker & Kevin Reynolds in 2009) of 1,204Ib 10oz, was convincingly beaten by the pairing of Glenn Beardsall & Mark Jarvis, who between them took 1,308Ib 8oz during the 48hr event.

Fishing the club house end of the lake, both Glenn & Mark, put their new Fox 12000XT reels (loaded with Fox Soft Steel XS line) through their paces, with the reels performing superbly throughout. The end tackle consisted of Coretex hook links to a line aligned size 8 barbless SSC hook, fished running rig style over Fox Adaptive Camo leadcore. The fact that only 4 fish were lost during the event is testament to the hooking qualities of the SSC hooks coupled with the new Fox Line Aligna Adapters. 

As for bait, both Glenn & Mark are big Mainline users, so the New Grange formed the bulk of their baiting, for which they fished Hi-Visual pop ups over the top, snowman style. The use of the Hi-Vis pop-ups made the difference in their opinion, helping them to pick out the bigger fish, thus seeing them to their final total. 

Also during the event team newcomer Jonathon Price (Fishing with Chris Page) was able to bag two twenty pound commons from the venue one being a new PB for Jonathon at a weight of 21lb 8oz, Jonathon picked up the brace from the left hand side of the Island on a Mainline Cell hookbait fished in a solid PVA Bag with crushed Cell boilies and Cell response pellets, even better Jonathon was able to christen his newly acquired Fox Horizon XT’s.  

The event itself was the first of a series of 5 pair’s events for the Fox/Mainline sponsored RAF Carp Team, from which the top 6 anglers go forward to represent the RAF in both the British Carp Angling Championships 2013 & Inter-Service competition 2012, against the best anglers from the Army and Navy teams.
