Rainbow Result For Alan Taylor!

What a result for Alan Taylor!

The long standing Mainline carper, recently made the trip to Rainbow Lake in France and was rewarded with an extremely memorable winter session...

Using a mixture of Hybrid, Cell and New Grange boilies, Alan landed eleven fish including five over forty-pounds, a cracking 57lb common and to top off the session a fish known as 'Ten Scale' at a whopping 84lb!

Alan recalls the struggle he had landing this huge mirror carp: "The session was already going well, when on Monday morning I noticed the left hand rod tip pull down, followed by the heavy bobbin dropping back. When I pulled into the fish, I could feel it running along the far side of a bar and so took to the boat immediately.

The wind was very strong and gusting, the front of the boat was bouncing about in the waves and I was steering and winding like mad to keep a tight line. When I finally got over the fish and he started plodding round the boat it became obvious it was another good fish.

When I finally got a quick look, as his head popped out the waves - it was humongous and I could see my little size 6 hook in his lip and his eyes were the size of ping-pong balls. You don' t want to lose this one I kept saying to myself as I tried to control the boat and the fish with the tight line singing in the strong wind to add to the drama.

Several times I got him to the net, but each time he managed to wriggle out before I could lift it - he just seemed 'too big' for the net. My heart was in my mouth several times as he laid over the net when finally I decided as he laid there over the net for the umpteenth time to drop the rod into the boat and scoop the big fella up!

I let out the biggest sigh ever and sat shaking in the boat, I unclipped the hooklink, laid his fins flat against his body, and made my way back to the bank. Someone was looking down on me and like them footballers do I blew a kiss up to heaven.

We weighed and photographed him, with the help of Pete, Lee and John a big thanks to you all. But what a fish 'Ten Scale' at 84lb! When it was all done I sat in the bivvy and got a bit emotional. I remember back to my first trip to Rainbow and looking at the photos in the bar and picking 'Ten Scale' out as a proper looker and wanting to catch that one - it's what dreams are made of and why we go fishing!"
