Cellsational result for Jonny Mac!
With an already impressive list of big fish captures to his name, top Mainline consultant, Jon McAllister has been in touch to report yet another result, with an amazing brace of fish from one of his target waters, Vinnetrow lake. Over to Jon to take up this fantastic story: “I’d last fished the lake in July over the ‘Full Moon’ period, where what could have been an amazing session ended in disaster, I fished well and managed to get 7 runs, but lost 3 of these fish with one of them being the big-un. It’s probably not a good idea to print exactly how I felt about this, let’s just say I was not a happy man, not happy at all! I left the lake totally hacked off, although I did think to myself, at least I know the biggie likes a full moon. Understandably feeling a little sorry for myself, I decided to take a break from Vinnetrow for a few weeks and fish another lake I have a ticket for that we’ve nicknamed ‘The big M’. With the moon full and bright again in August, I knew I had to get back onto Vinnetrow, but returned to find the lake very busy, having to set-up where I could for the first night of my 72hr session, until a few guys left and I was able to move into an area where I’d seen a few fish. The following morning I received a take to one of my rods fishing towards the middle of the lake, where I’d seen a few fish show and ultimately fulfilled a lifetime dream of catching a common carp over 40lbs, when I landed the common known as ‘Blunders’ at 42lbs 12ozs! Catching a large carp like this is normally a good sign to stay put, but strangely I had a gut feeling that I needed to move, so I up sticks and moved to the opposite side of the lake. I had seen a few fish there although not many and as soon as I’d set up in the new swim I started to regret my random move. The next morning I text my mate to say I thought I’d been daft to move and just so I could kick myself a little harder , he duly told me how fish were now showing in the swim I’d just left! Then I noticed a few bubbles hitting the surface a couple of rod lengths away from one of my baited spots. Then a few minutes later the bubbling increased, before a massive stream of bubbles came up right over my baited spot! Ten minutes later at around 08:50 the rod fishing the spot seeing all the bubbling, feeding activity received a screaming take and an epic 40minute battle began. At one point I even had to wade up to my neck in the water, to get around some bushes and into the next swim as the fish took line, kitting hard to my left.
A few anglers had gathered in the swim by now, one of them saying it was the ‘Half-Lin’, but I tried not to think about it until the fish finally came towards the net I could see it was a mirror with a big scale on its shoulder and I knew for myself, which fish it was. It was indeed the ‘Half-Lin’ and as it dropped into the net I let out a big shout of relief and delight. I was and still am absolutely blown away, a 42lb common, followed by the ‘Half-Lin’ at 47lbs 10ozs! Man what a crazy session!”
