Rainbow Result!
We recently posted an article from Mainline Consultant, Alan Taylor detailing some of the tactics he uses when tackleing French lakes such as the famous 'Big-Carp' venue, Rainbow Lake. These methods are certainly delivering the goods for Alan who's been in touch again following another successful trip to Rainbow. Over to Alan to take up the story:"After coming back from Rainbow in august and having some nice fish including a couple of 60plus commons on Mainline's MK1 test bait, I was really looking forward to getting back in September. I had started during that trip to use the ground bait in with my particle mix and this seemed to make a big difference, things were coming together nicely as they say and it was coming into my favourite time of year and big fish time. I would be there coming up to the September full moon at the end of the month.
Anyway I had managed to secure peg 17 for two weeks, this for those of you that don`t know is ultimate snag fishing, the far bank is covered in fallen trees, humongous great pine trees that have been blown into the water in one of Rainbows famous storms. The idea is to fish between these or as near to them as possible, within a rod length in most places. I spent the first morning clearing old line and a few snags from the swim to make it as fishable as possible, then proceeded to find some nice spots to place my baits. The rods are set with the tips slightly in the air, the rod rests have to be rock solid and the clutches screwed up tight, the rods are even strapped down to stop them disappearing into the lake on a take! Which I have seen happen more than once. The plan being that a take pulls the tip over, a couple of bleeps on the buzzer, dash to the rods, hold on tight, it`s now squeaky bum time, as you walk backwards steadily not giving an inch.
I started off baiting quiet lightly a couple of handfuls of my particle mix and a hand full of the MK1, the thinking behind this being that there was probably bait left from the previous week/angler, whom evidentially had had two fish during his visit.
Anyway what a trip it turned out to be with 22 fish over 40lbs consisting of 4 x 60s, 9 x 50`s, 9 x 40`s and 5 others!!!
All played and landed from the bank and only two fish lost, both on old tackle and line left by previous anglers.
A fantastic session and as always I just can't wait to get back!"
